Admission to majors in the School of Education usually occurs during the sophomore year. New students are first accepted to Pre-Education and are eligible to enroll in EDUC 100, Introduction to Teaching. Students with a 2.70 cumulative grade point average, a 2.5 in English composition and mathematics and a 20 ACT composite score are eligible to enroll in the first block of professional education courses (EDUC 200, 201 and 309) the first semester of their sophomore year. During this semester, students submit a formal application for admission to a major in the School of Education and must pass the CBASE standardized test. To be eligible for admission, students must have a 2.70 cumulative grade point average, a 3.0 average in professional education coursework, a satisfactory recommendation from their field experience/placement, an acceptable writing sample, satisfactory practicum evaluation and a portfolio analysis. As a requirement of the program, students must complete a criminal background check and DFS screening annually.
